Our District: District Administration: Meet the Superintendent

Story image 1

Meet The Superintendent

Dr. Steven P. Shanahan, Superintendent of Schools

Welcome to the Blair Community Schools and what I feel is the very best school district in Nebraska. I am proud to have served as an administrator in the District since 1982 and have seen first hand what wonderful students, talented teachers, supportive parents and a community that values and encourages quality education can mean for each and every young person.

I am a native of Nebraska, born in Omaha and attended Omaha Benson High School. My undergraduate work was done at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Studies, English and PE and an endorsement to teach secondary education.

I spent seven years as an 8th grade Core teacher in the Omaha Public Schools and during this time attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha where I received my Masters of Science Degree in Secondary Administration. I was appointed the Secondary Principal at Laurel Concord Schools Community (NE) in 1979 and served in that capacity for 3 years.

In 1982, I came to the Blair Community Schools as Jr./Sr. High School Principal and remained in that position for 16 years. In 1998, I was appointed Assistant Superintendent and in 2001, Superintendent of Schools; a position I currently hold. In 2006, I received my Doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

I welcome calls and inquiries concerning the Blair Community Schools and encourage you to explore our web site and learn more about the wonderful educational opportunities the Blair Community Schools afford.

Sincerely,

Dr. Steven P. Shanahan, Superintendent
