Hand With Flowers
by Shelley Schoby, K-2 Art Specialist
In art this week, second grade students were
introduced to the artists Pablo Picasso and Henri Rousseau. Both
artists use lines that represent nature in their paintings. Pablo
Picasso paints with bold lines, shapes of color and many exotic
details. Henri Rousseau is known for his use of strong, cheerful
colors and imaginative subject matter. Both artists went to school
to study art. Pablo Picasso’s father was an art
teacher.
Students created art similar in style to that of Picasso’s painting Hand with Flowers. First, hands and wrist were traced and cutout. Next, students cut stems, flowers and leaves. Marker or crayon created additional details of color. Finally, all parts were glued together to form a collage.
