This
week in art, first grade students were introduced to two new
artists. The first was the abstract artist Henri Matisse
(1898-1976). He was a master at using color lines and shapes to
express feelings. The second artist was Alexander
Calder(1869-1954). He was famous for making wire sculptures with
simple lines.
Sculpture by Alexander Calder
Students used a variety of lines to create
a picture of a view from a special window in their home. Color
filled the picture followed by a sentence describing their
picture.
