Boys’ group did a fabulous job maneuvering their little goats over a brilliantly designed bridge outwitting the troll.

Magnets are Magnificent!

Second graders in Mrs. Boyd’s class experimented with magnets and made some exciting discoveries about the characteristics of magnets. We created a list of magnetic and nonmagnetic items in our room and world. Magnets have magnetic fields, north and south poles, attract, repel and come in a variety of sizes and shapes.

Resourceful young ladies found mini book of their story so one could read and the other could make sure the little pigs escaped the big bad wolf.

Our culminating project allowed us to demonstrate a magnet’s magnetic field. After selecting a favorite story, we created paper characters, attached a paper clip to them and moved them about by holding a magnet underneath their stage. It took a lot of creative coordinating to move characters while retelling or reading a story. We saw the three billy goats Gruff cross the bridge, the three pigs move from house to house and several others. Magnets are magnificent!

Look carefully and you can see the red (N) of her bar magnet. The girls managed the magnetic field with ease as the little pigs made houses of straw, sticks and bricks.
