Blair K-3 Primary Schools

The Blair K-3 primary schools are neighborhood buildings located in various sections of the Blair community. The school population consists of students living within these designated attendance centers, along with rural students who ride the bus to school.

Deerfield enrolls approximately 400 PK-3 students in 4 sections of each grade and houses the District’s Early Childhood Special Education Preschool Program.

North and South Schools enroll approximately 175-200 students at each building in 2-3 sections of each grade level.  West School has 2 sections of each grade PK-2, with an enrollment of approximately 130 students.

In November of 2006, a $19.6 million bond issue was approved by voters in the Blair District. Deerfield, the newest of the PK-3 primary schools, was built on 8.8 acres of land in the Deerfield subdivision in northwest Blair. In 2008-2009, North Primary School underwent major renovations to the original structure, adding additional classroom space.

Students are challenged in the basic curriculum areas by caring and concerned classroom teachers. Early literacy development is emphasized throughout the primary grades. Students participate in a 90 minute reading block of uninterrupted instruction and professional development focused on scientifically proven reading strategies is provided for staff.

Specialists develop the areas of music, art, physical education and library skills. Computer education is started as young as kindergarten as students are taught basic computer skills in grades K-3. Enrichment activities are offered to challenge the advanced learners in all classroom environments. Services and support in the areas of speech and language, special education, reading, guidance and counseling as well as student health are also available at each building.

A school-wide character education program rounds out the K-3 curriculum with emphasis on respect, responsibility, trustworthiness and honesty. A student recognition program is in place along with monthly all-school assemblies.
