Senior Mentors Help Freshmen Succeed
by Karen Gengenbach
To help all freshman students make a successful transition to Blair
High School, several programs have been implemented for 2008-2009.
All 9th grade students are assigned to the Academic Enrichment
Program (AEP) where they will meet daily for 31 minutes with a
teacher and two senior mentors. The freshmen will study and do
homework during AEP and they can receive tutoring from the senior
mentors. The mentors will help freshmen learn to use agenda books
and get organized with notebooks and textbooks. The senior mentors
also help with problem-solving and questions that freshmen might
have as they begin high school.
The senior mentors were selected through an application process. They attended a training seminar prior to school to learn about their responsibilities. Twenty four mentors were selected including Kelsey Angle, Kevin Burns, Tara Cowley, Aubrey Davis, Samantha Eicke, Taylor Fernau, Rachel Foley, Tom Hodgson, Lauren Huston, Eric Johnson, Jennifer Johnson, Eric Kellogg, Elizabeth Korenak, Stacia McIntosh, Paige Notlette, Erin Reeh, Lowell Reeh, Victoria Ricceri, Taylor Santos, Alyssa Straube, Morgan Svoboda, Alissa Tripp, Ashley van Waes, and LIndsey Wittry.
